It’s Worldwide Photo Walk time again – this time it’s not just one day, it’s a weekend of photo walks.

Just in case it’s not clear what I’m talking about, here is a short explanation. For the forth time Scott Kelby has organized a worldwide event: Groups of photographers will gather on the weekend of October 1st and 2nd and take pictures for about two hours. It is very interesting to experience how (up to) 50 people basically looking at the same “things” interpret what they see completely differently.

I’m leading the Rochester, NY walk at High Falls this year (after leading a downtown walk in Rochester two years ago, and a walk in Memmingen, Germany last year).

It’s been a while… My last post was a long time ago. I my defense, I’ve been working on a project, and that took up a lot of time. Now that that’s done, I may just post to my blog every now and then…

Let’s start with something simple… Cats and laptops. Here are a few pictures of my cat that I’ve taken over the last few months.

The last picture is the prelude to the next picture – a while after I took the previous picture I needed my laptop again. Here is what I found on the screen:

What happens when you hang a photo upside down? Does it still work? Does it still look good? Does it turn into something different? Find out for yourself at the “Upside Down” show at the Rochester High Falls Art Gallery. One of the current shows has all frames mounted upside down.

The free public reception for the shows is on Sunday, December 6th from 3 to 6pm.

The exhibits continue through January 8th, 2009.

Now that the Small show is over, it’s time for a new exhibit at the High Falls Gallery: The Abstraction show is about to open.

As far as I know, everybody had fun – at least until the rain started. It was not too bad: It rained for a about 10 minutes, but we lost a few people during and after that little break.
Let’s do this again next year.

The next time you are in or around downtown Rochester you may want to consider stopping by to look at a few pictures. The art work is small (hence the name), so it should not take too long

The next show – titled “Abstract” – will open on July 26th and is running through September 11th. I submitted three of my images, so I’ll be at the opening. Do you want to join me?

I submitted three pictures, and I’ve been told that because of the large number of submissions, only one image per artist is guaranteed to be in the show. If not all of my pictures will make it into the exhibit, I’ll post the rejected ones here. So stay tuned. And, I hope to see you at the reception.

I needed business cards. The usual recommendation is to go with one of the free offers (e.g. VistaPrint or HP), but that’s not me…

I wanted cards that would not only show off some of my more creative side, but also cards that would stick out – figuratively and literally.

In the past, I’ve had the Moo mini cards, but they don’t make for good business cards because of the restricted space on them. I needed to fit more information on a card. Moo also makes business cards so I started to collect a few images that I wanted on the backs of my cards, and worked on the design.

When I received the cards in the mail, I was impressed with the print, but also the paper quality. The cards stick out for two reasons: They look great, and they are of a different size than the regular US business cards: They are a little wider, but not as tall (I use them in portrait orientation).

Because I don’t want late night calls from people I don’t know, I’ve removed part of my phone numbers, and my street address. The actual cards of course do contain that information.

All the images that I’ve used are in my Moo set on Flickr.

I still have a few stacks of punch cards at my mother’s house, while cleaning out my office last week, I found a 5 1/4″ floppy disk, and then of course, I have a ton of negatives and slides…
